How do you approach and recruit successful people into your business when you haven’t had success yet?
The best and fastest way to have success in your network marketing business is to approach people with your opportunity who are more successful than you are.
What New People Have In Common
You should always be recruiting “up”. But when you’re new, there are two things that typically hold a new person back from approaching successful people:
- lack of confidence, and;
- lack of personal success.
How A Successful Prospect Is Thinks
However, it’s important for you to know that if a successful person is open to an opportunity and that opportunity makes sense, they will not dismiss that opportunity because of you or your lack of success. They will see and evaluate the opportunity for what it is.
However, successful people typically have a high opinion of themselves. They know that they can be successful at whatever opportunity they choose focus on. So, how you approach the successful person is very important.
How To Approach Successful People Using The Referral Method
The best way to approach successful people with your business opportunity is the super indirect method called the referral method. This method of approach is bullet proof from being rejected because you aren’t directly asking them to join your business.
Here are the steps for approaching successful people:
- Be upbeat and enthusiastic but not overwhelming.
- Compliment your successful prospect.
- Why you are approaching them.
- If I…would you….
- Do the thing (show the video, etc.)
- Follow up.
- Connect them with someone in your up-line who is successful.
Here’s an example: “Hey (Name), I know you would never be interested in something like this, but I’ve just started a new business, I’m super excited about it and I could use your help.
If I shared with you a ______ (short video, recorded call, sample of the product), would you _______ (take a look at it, listen to it, try it, etc.) and let me know what you think? The reason why is because I know that you know a lot of people and maybe somebody you know will come to mind because I know that this is a great opportunity for the right person who sees it.”
What’s great about this approach is that you have already told your prospect that you’re not offering the opportunity to him, you already know they’re not interested. You’re asking for their referral. So their resistance is automatically lower. If they’re not interested they may refer you someone from their network who will be another successful person. When you do contact that referral, you have credibility with that other prospect because of the referring person.
The problem with asking broke, unsuccessful people for referrals, is that they probably don’t have a network, or if they do, their network will be other broke people. This is why you always recruit up!
And sometimes, although you’re not expecting it, this original prospect does see the opportunity.
So you just can’t lose by using the super indirect referral method with successful people.
