Today’s transformation exercise is how to Make Room For Success In Your Life, based on the Success Principles by Jack Canfield. (To order Jack’s book: The Success Principles: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be
)
Incomplete Tasks Hinder Our Success
Our life is like a glass full of water. We can’t put more water into the glass without having the water spill out until we empty the contents to make more room. So in order to make room in our life for more blessings of success, or progressing toward the path of our true potential, we have to empty those things we no longer need, no longer serve us or that are holding us back from our true potential.
Jack Canfield calls this step, “clearing up your messes and incompletes”. When we have incompleted projects or fail to get closure with people, these incompletes represent areas in our life where we are not clear; we have emotional or psychological blockages that are keeping us from moving forward.
When you don’t complete the past you can not be entirely free embrace the present.
Personal Weeding For Success
I have unpacked boxes from when I moved from California to Utah after I married my husband almost 5 years ago. I implemented this incomplete principle and cleared a hallway of boxes. By now the content of these boxes were no longer needed and their contents were either thrown away or given to charity. The freedom and burden relief I got from clearing out these boxes and having an open hallway was so liberating! There is success inherent just in act of completing open tasks!
The Biggest Boulders Create the Greatest Success
Stephen Covey refers to big projects or the most important, critical tasks as boulders. This is because these tasks carry the greatest burden or consequence when left undone and provide the greatest relief once completed. Stephen Covey teaches that the big boulders in our life are those things that we should prioritize and do first. Then fill the rest of our day completing those smaller tasks (pebbles).
I believe that open items with people can be considered boulders. Resolving issues with people can be the most difficult. But they also provide the most growth and healing necessary to bring about more success and abundance into our lives. It’s been shown in studies that when we hold a grudge over someone in our past, this bitterness actually acts like a poison in our own life, negatively impacting potential for fullness of joy in our life and can cause us health problems. We need to forgive everyone. We need to forgive others, not for their sake, but for our own sake so that we will no longer dwell on those negatives feelings. We need to make amends where we can, so long as our efforts to amend don’t create more harm. In the latter case, just saying a prayer of forgiveness over the other person and wishing them well in their life is an act that will bring your peace and the freedom to move forward in your life. This is Step 8 and 9 in the 12 Step Recovery Program (Step 8: Seeking Forgiveness; Step 9: Restitution & Reconciliation).
By adopting a completion mindset, you will bring the power of COMPLETION into your life.
If there is anything from your past preventing you from moving forward in your life, it’s time to let those things go. Because when you clear out the old, you make room for something better. And, quite frankly clearing the old, unfinished work is the only way you will create that empty space required so that great blessings can fill that space in your life.
Transformation Activity:
1. Download and complete the following worksheet: Create Space For Success
2. Schedule a “Completion Weekend” and devote 2 full days to completing as many items on the list as possible. The sooner you do this the sooner you will free your life to receive the blessings and empowerment from this exercise.
3. Schedule time each month to cross off 1-2 more items off your worksheet list. The goal is to complete or deal with each item on the list within 12 months.
4. Share your experience and accomplishments here as a comment or on my Facebook page.
Make this a habit of never leaving anything undone and you will be amazed at all the things you are able to accomplish!
