To grow your business, you need to generate income by moving products or services through people as business partners or customers. This means you have to ask people to take a look at your business opportunity or your products/services, or what I’ll call your “thing”, in order to build a successful business.
However, just the thought of asking someone to take a look at their business opportunity or product arouses so much fear in most new people that they delay the act of asking or quit their business altogether before they are able to master the art of asking. Then they blame their lack of success on the business sales model rather than holding themselves accountable to the fact that they were unwilling to do the personal growth and take the consistent actions required to become successful. In this case, it’s overcoming their fear of asking.
Strategies For Overcoming Fear
To overcome the fear of asking I’m going to share with you some strategies.
First, understand that fear stands for fantacized-experience-appearing-real.
So the fact on fear is that fear is the result of going into the future and imagining a negative result from the action you’re about to engage in.
To overcome your fear go over the following checklist in your head:
- Live in the “now”, or the present moment.
- Don’t personalize the outcome.
- Stop projecting.
Living in the now:
You can only take action in the present moment. Your self-criticism is based on your past experiences, but your past does not determine your present situation. You need to focus on your inner coach who is with you in the present moment and encouraging your success.
Remember that everyone has started exactly where you are today. Your success depends on your plowing through the actions. You will be bad at first, then you will be good, then you will be great. Then you will be able to mentor others to do the same.
Don’t personalize the outcome:
When you ask someone to take a look at your thing, remember that this is about them and not about you. Their decision depends on their own personal timing and their level of education or experience with what you are offering. Your reaction to their decision should be the same regardless of their answer.
If their answer is “no” this will result in a follow up appointment. Remember it takes about 5-7 touches to get someone to join your business or buy your product.
Most people can’t help but project into the future. Having a negative projected outcome from your asking may create fear, anxiety and even failure to act. Even more, law of attraction would manifest your fear on the basis that your thoughts are your reality.
The best way to overcome this fear and to ask with confidence is to flip or replace the negative projected image or outcome with a positive one using the following steps:
- Visualize the positive outcome of the event.
- Feel the positive emotions and feelings of the positive event being completed.
Push Through Fear With Action
The only way to push through fear is to act. The act of asking will provide you the opportunity to learn and grow, personally, while you learn the art of developing rapport and relationships while you grow your business. The only failure you will have in asking is if you quit.
Your greatest growth is where your greatest fear is!
If you can’t you must!
When you push through your fear you will find a whole new world will open up to you.
I used to have a fear of horses because when I was little I had one horse who bucked me off and another that rubbed me off in some bushes. To overcome my fear of horses I took riding lessons and learned how to master a horse. Overcoming this fear was so liberating and caused me to write a list of my other fears so that I could tackle those fears too.
