US Federal Income Tax: Links for key tax forms and tools.
Being an experienced certified public accountant (CPA) of over 20 years, people often ask me questions about where to find certain forms and how to best calculate their tax withholding for payroll. So I’m going to share them here:
Individuals (With Jobs)
Form W-4: Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate
The IRS encourages everyone to use the Withholding Calculator to perform a quick “paycheck checkup.” The Calculator helps you identify your tax withholding to make sure you have the right amount of tax withheld from your paycheck at work.
Business Owners
If you own a business always have non-employees complete Form W-9 BEFORE you pay them any amount for services rendered. At the end of each year you are required to provide 1099’s to any non-employee you paid at least $600 to during the year. The 1099 also serves as a certification from the person you paid for the type of tax entity they are. I have always learned that people are will to provide the completed, signed form W-9 as a condition for payment. If you fail to report this 1099 information to the IRS you can be subject to penalties.
