In this age of digital marketing your professional brand, and not your resume, may determine whether you get a shot at that dream job position and today I tell you what you need to know to best market yourself to maximize your opportunities in my post, “Not Your Resume, Where’s Your Brand Page?”.
Corporate Trend Setters
In today’s highly competitive job market your LinkedIn profile and your resume may not be enough to get an interview for your next ideal dream job.
Large international CPA firms are in a good position to gauge the trends of big business since these accounting firms are hired by big companies to perform regular periodical financial audits where accounting firms have a full disclosure view of these companies.
It’s common practice that when the corporate world wants to implement a change in culture, employee mindset or establish a new way of doing business they will implement these changes first with the up and coming new generation of workforce, college students.
Your Branding Will Impact Your Career
When I saw that international CPA firm, PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC), had published its personal branding workbook on its career development page for college students, called “Your Personal Brand Workbook”, I thought it was important to take note of this and highlight, in my opinion, what this means.
Sifting through a stack of resumes provides an employer a single dimension to determine which candidates to interview. From personal experience, this is time-consuming. A candidate’s professional brand page provides a preview of the candidate and their education, experience, personality, accomplishments, outside interests and recommendations and whether an employer should pursue an interview. Plus, top companies want candidates that are at the top of their game, savvy and competitive.
Personal Brand Strategy And Brand Management
You may be asking what does personal branding mean? Your brand is your reputation. When companies are Googling your name and checking your social media you have provided these companies, and individuals, your perceived brand and reputation.
To be successful you must now have a clear marketing strategy on how you present and build your brand in your profession.
Building a strong brand page allows you to take control over what your brand says about you. Your brand is about bringing who you are to what you are and how you do what you do and then ultimately how you are perceived and experienced by others, including potential employers, that will set you apart. So it’s important that you have a brand strategy in place and exercise careful brand management.
With PWC emphasizing personal branding to college students, personal branding is a trend that every smart professional should get in front of to best position their career.
